New York City's murder rate may be lowest in 40 years


The city is on track to have fewer than 500 murders in 2007, the lowest amount in a 12-month period in more than 40 years, according to a published report Thursday.

New York City's murder rate is on track to be the lowest in more than 40 years.

There were 427 murders logged as of Monday -- 411 killings plus 16 crime victims who died this year from injuries they got years ago, The New York Times reported on its Web site. That makes the city's average slightly more than one per day.

5 found dead in park; murder-suicide suspected


Five people were found dead in a park Thursday night in an apparent murder-suicide, police said.

Five bodies were found at Unity Park, about 25 miles northwest of Washington, D.C.

"It looks like it is a domestic-related homicide-suicide," Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Porsha Jones said.

Montgomery County Police and Maryland-National Capital Park Police were called to Unity Neighborhood Park near Laytonsville around 9:20 p.m., Montgomery County police said.

Congressman says police stopped his vehicle due to racial profiling


U.S. Rep. Danny Davis of Illinois believes he was victim of racial profiling this week, his spokeswoman said.

Rep. Danny Davis thinks he was pulled over because there were "four black men in the car," his spokeswoman said.

Two white police officers pulled over the Democratic congressman early Monday morning, according to spokeswoman Tumia Romero.

T.I. Fights Back, Says Evidence In Weapons Case Is Inadmissible In Court


T.I. is seeking to make evidence seized from his car and statements he made to authorities inadmissible in court. The rapper claims both were illegally obtained.

The rapper (born Clifford Harris) is currently on house arrest awaiting trial in a federal weapons case. The convicted felon allegedly attempted to buy guns and silencers from an undercover agent in a drugstore parking lot during a sting operation.

Hip-Hop Artists Support Local Charities During The Holiday Season


St. Louis rapper Chingy is giving back to his St. Louis community through his non-profit organization Chingy for Change.

T.I. and The K.I.N.G. Foundation are giving away hundreds of Thanksgiving dinners at Club Crucial today (November 22), while Chicago rapper Bump J will give away hundreds of turkeys throughout the South and Eastside’s of the city

On Friday (November 20), Ludacris sponsored a turkey giveaway at the New Piney Grove Baptist Church in Decatur, GA, where an estimated 500 local families were fed.

T.I. and Atlanta radio personality Ryan Cameron also raised over $160,000 for the Hosea Williams Feed The Hungry and Homeless Foundation, to save the organization’s 38th annual Thanksgiving dinner.

In Los Angeles, California, Cash Money Records rapper Glasses Malone and his Blu Division imprint hosted a turkey giveaway for low-income families at legendary record store VIP Records.

50 Cent Expresses Condolences Regarding Dr. Donda West


Close to two weeks after the death of his mother and manager Dr. Donda West, rapper Kanye West is receiving condolences from his biggest music rival, 50 Cent.

"That's really an unfortunate situation and I hope he can work his way through it," 50 Cent said Tuesday (Nov. 20). "It's good to see him actually touring: You can work your way back into a comfortable space where you can deal with those situations."

Juice Crew Film In The Works


A film about one of Hip-Hop's most storied collectives, The Juice Crew, is scheduled to begin production in January of 2008. The movie, entitled The Vapors, after Biz Markie's 1988 hit of the same name, will be directed by Furqaan Clover. Actress Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee, Madea's Family Reunion) has been cast as Roxanne Shante, while Clifton Powell (Ray, Norbit) will play the part of DJ Mr. Magic. Clover's previous credits include Queen of Media, a biopic of Hip-Hop radio personality Wendy Williams, which is currently in post-production.

New Evidence Surfaces In B.I.G. Murder According To U.S. Judge


A judge presiding over the wrongful death case of Christopher "The Notorious B.I.G." Wallace may formally add Marion "Suge" Knight and corrupt cop Rafael Perez as defendants she indicated today (November 17).

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper said she may issue a final order to add Knight and Perez due to new evidence surrounding B.I.G’s murder, which occurred on Los Angeles’ Miracle Mile on March 9, 1997, just six months after the brazen murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, on Las Vegas’s famed Strip.

Hate crimes jump nearly 8 percent


Hate crime incidents in the United States rose last year by nearly 8 percent, the FBI reported Monday, as racial prejudice continued to account for more than half the reported instances.

1 of 3 more photos » Police across the nation reported 7,722 criminal incidents in 2006 targeting victims or property as a result of bias against a particular race, religion, sexual orientation, ethnic or national origin or physical or mental disability.

That was up 7.8 percent from the 7,163 incidents reported in 2005.
