Stop Snitchin DVD Creator Indicted By Feds


The creator of the controversial Stop Snitching! DVD was among 26 people indicated on various charges, including racketeering, for allegedly being members of the Tree Top Bloods gang in Baltimore, Maryland.

Over 100 law enforcement officers were deployed yesterday morning (Feb. 28) to execute search warrants and arrest members of the TTP Bloods in Maryland.

1 in every 100 adults behind bars


For the first time in history, more than one in every 100 American adults is in jail or prison, according to a new report.

The report, released Thursday by the Pew Center on the States, said the 50 states spent more than $49 billion on corrections last year, up from less than $11 billion 20 years earlier. The rate of increase for prison costs was six times greater than for higher education spending, the report said.

Snoop Dogg Says His 'Cool' Cover Of Time Song Is 'Dynamic To Your Ears'


He had a place in New York, two more in Malibu. Diamonds on his fingers and toes. Ladies by the dozens and money by the tons. Lead singer of the Time, Morris Day epitomized what he sang about on the group's 1981 hit "Cool." He had his own dance and somebody to carry a mirror around just so he could check out his own sharp splendor. Now, in 2008, one of the coolest guys of the past two decades is honoring the Time in song.

Forum To Be Held On dead prez Incident


In the aftermath of a riot at a dead prez concert at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington, the Hip Hop Congress will host a forum on the incident tomorrow (Feb. 29) and also pay for some of the damages.

HHC will sell an album of various artists’ works—including dead prez—to raise the money.
"I'm hoping it's more of a dialogue," said Shamako Noble, Hip Hop Congress’ president. "I'd be interested to know some direction we can take as a community."

Diddy Takes Top Ratings Spots


When Nielsen releases its Trend Index next week, Sean "Diddy" Combs will likely be at the top of the ratings charts. The founder of Bad Boy Records and the Sean John clothing line helped draw in over 12 million viewers during ABC's Monday broadcast of A Raisin in the Sun.

"I was destined to play this role because my father was killed when I was three years old," Combs recounted to the Associated Press. "I grew up in a house with three women--my mother, my grandmother and my sister. I went through those years of having to watch my mother and my grandmother work two jobs and not being able to take care of my family..."

Ja Rule Can't Bail Out Buddies In Gun Charge, Says Judge


After Ja Rule spent thousands of dollars posting bail for two friends, a judge ordered that the rapper keep his money to himself.

The two incarcerated men are co-defendants of Ja Rule in a gun possession case, according to New York Newsday. State Supreme Court Judge Micki Scherer said today that she wants each of the men to keep their cash separate.

Corporate Thugz Sued By Producer


An Ellenwood, Georgia based producer recently filed a lawsuit against Young Jeezy’s Corporate Thugz Productions, claiming the company owes him thousands of dollars for production.

DJ Speedy, born Harvey Lee Miller Jr, filed the lawsuit in Fulton County Superior Court, claiming that Corporate Thugz owes him $10,000 dollars for production work on two albums.

Georgia Governor To Honor Hometown Hip-Hop Artists


Two-time Grammy Award winner DJ Toomp is one of several Georgia musicians to be honored by the state's Governor, Sonny Perdue, at a private dinner set to take place on March 19th at the Governor's Mansion in Atlanta's posh Buckhead neighborhood.

The event will celebrate Georgia's Grammy nominees and winners, including Outkast, Keyshia Cole, Akon, Ne-Yo, T-Pain, Gnarls Barkley, Angie Stone and India.Arie.

All Grammy Award winning musicians currently reside in the state of Georgia.

Rakim Preps New Live LP


Rapper Rakim has inked a deal with Koch Records and he is planning a new album next month. The new release, titled Live, Lost & Found is due in stores next month. The album will features 17 tracks from the legendary lyricist's 20-plus-year career, as well as four previously unreleased songs. Live, Lost & Found is due in stores March 4on Koch Records.

Lawyer in Court Case Calls Diddy's Defense "Engulfed in Fantasy"


Sean "Diddy" Combs continues to deny accusations that he punched a party goer in a parking lot of an Oscar Awards after party.

According to the Los Angeles Independent, Diddy filed a declaration earlier this month to prevent efforts by lawyers to obtain his financial worth.

According to plaintiff Gerard Rechnitzer's lawsuit, he used the restroom, and went to the parking lot to meet friends and was assaulted :"without provocation" by Diddy, who was talking to Rechnitzer's girlfriend.

Andre 3000 Hits The Small Screen, Returns To "The Shield"


Rapper/actor Andre 3000 will reprise his role on the hit FX drama "The Shield" this summer, as his character hits the campaign trail.

In 2004, the multitalented entertainer (nee Andre Benjamin) played the owner of a comic book store who took matters into his own hands as drug dealers and prostitutes overtaking his neighborhood. Now, Benjamin's character will be running for mayor in the season's last episode.

"I'm actually playing a guy running for mayor in the show finale," he told Blackfilm.com. "My character was first introduced years ago in a small role."

This will be the seventh and final season of "The Shield."

Young Jeezy Makes Fan's Dream Come True


Young Jeezy granted the wish of one lucky winner out of a pool of hopefuls last night (Feb. 26) in Atlanta for his "Make Your Dreams Come True" contest.

"My ultimate dream would be for me to provide a wheelchair accessible van for my son, Davon Jenkins," Tamara Jenkins-Wilson wrote in her submission. "Davon is 13 years old and has cerebral palsy and is confined to a wheelchair. It is hard for me to provide this for him as we are a military family and I am unable to work, as I have to take care of him. My husband is currently serving in Iraq so I physically lift him in and out of our vehicle when we need to go to appointments and such. Thanks so much for the opportunity."

Jim Jones & Snoop Dogg Ask Critics To Look Past Rap Image At HSAN Awards


The stars came out for the 5th Annual Hip Hop Summit Action Awards celebration earlier this week. Jim Jones, Ciara and Snoop Dogg were among the honorees on Monday (Feb. 25) for their positive community contributions.

"A lot of you know me for things [that are] not politically correct ... but I have a family and a child," Jones said as he accepted his award, according to New York's Daily News. "I don't do [those things] unless I'm trying to get that dollar. You shouldn't judge a book by its cover; treat it like a novel and read it. It may be a best seller."

Michael Jackson Owes $24 Mil, In Danger Of Losing Neverland Ranch


Financial troubles have once again hit home for Michael Jackson, as the legendary singer is facing foreclosure on his famed Neverland Ranch.

According to TMZ, the king of pop recently received notice from Financial Title Company of the impending foreclosure of the multi-million dollar mega mansion. The singer reportedly owes $24,525,906.61 on the property and is requesting that Jackson pay the amount in full by the March 19 deadline.

Madonna Taps Pharrell, Timbaland On 'Hard Candy'


Pop star Madonna has revealed the name of her new album and has tapped a number of Hip-Hop producers to help her craft the album sonically.

The album titled Hard Candy, features production by Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Nate "Danja" Hills.

Lil Wayne Pleads Not Guilty to Gun Charges


Cash Money Records rapper Lil Wayne appeared at an arraignment hearing on Monday (Feb. 25) in New York to enter a plea of not guilty in relation to gun charges for a incident last July.

The rapper Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., faces two felony charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.
