When it comes to work versus romance, the stereotype has been that men put a premium on career goals while women focus more on family and friends. Not so, according to a study published recently in the scientific journal "Gender Issues."

Black Wall Street Confirms The Game's Retirement Rumor


After appearing onstage during a Nas performance at the House of Blues on New Year's Eve, reports have been circulating that The Game will release his third album, L.A.X. in June of 2008. During a set that included the aforementioned Nas and will.i.am of The Black Eyed Peas, The Game was welcomed on stage, where he made the announcement. After performing the song "Hustlers," The Game announced that while the album will feature production from Dr. Dre, it will also be his last.

Method Man Goes Rasta for Sundance Film


In two weeks, Method Man's latest film, "The Wackness," will be shown at the Sundance Film Festival.

"It's cool as shit," said Method to MTV News. "This [guy] feels his life is wack. The lead character is played by Josh Peck, and it's the story of a high school student [who's] about to graduate — that's addicted to pot. His psychiatrist is also a drug addict — that's played by Ben Kingsley. Peck falls in love with Ben Kingsley's daughter, who's also a drug addict. Peck comes for advice from his supplier, who is me. I play a Rastafarian drug dealer. I really transformed. ... I hired my own coach. ... The dialogue they had was so Hollywood Jamaican, it was ridiculous. The person I worked with went in and wrote it over."

"The Wire" Actor Guarantees Viewers Will "Be Caught Off Guard" By Show's Final Season


With season five of HBO's critically acclaimed show "The Wire" premiering this weekend, SOHH spoke with actor Tray Chaney to get the inside scoop on the final season of one of television's hardest hitting programs.

Chaney first appeared during Season One of "The Wire" as Malik "Poot" Carr, one of the soldiers in Avon Barksdale's formidable drug organization. Over the last four seasons, loyal "Wire" fans have watched series regulars like D'Angelo Barksdale, Stringer Bell and Preston "Bodie" Broadus be killed off, making Chaney grateful just to see Poot survive.

Flo Rida Makes History, Sells 470 K Digital Singles


Up-and-coming rapper Flo Rida has set a single-week digital sales record with his single "Low," edging out heavyweights including Alicia Keys and Fergie to take the online crown.

According to Billboard.com, "Low" is No. 1 on this week's Billboard Hot 100 for the second week in a row and set a record with 470,000 in digital sales, easily trouncing reigning record-holder Fergie, whose "Fergalicious" sold 294,000.

BET Sits Down W/ Barack Obama & Hillary Clinton To Find Out, "What's In It For Us?"

Kid 'n Play Member Involved In Accident


Play, of the seminal rap group Kid 'n Play was hospitalized in Durham, NC after his car was hit by a man attempting to evade arrest.

Chris "Play" Martin's SUV was struck by a man who was fleeing a crime scene, according to The News & Observer. The driver, Raul Riva Aldamo, 34, of Greensboro, NC, was shot by police while trying to escape and pronounced dead at the scene.

Barack Obama Wins Iowa Caucus


Sen. Barack Obama won the Iowa Caucus on Thursday night (Jan. 3), the first major test for the race for the 2008 Democratic nomination for President of the United States.

The win dealt a blow to Clinton’s aspirations to be the first woman to claim president, while seriously boosting Obama’s chance to be the first African-American leader of the country.

AHH Stray News: T.I., Birdman, Russell Simmons, Lil' Wayne


A key evidence suppression hearing that was scheduled in regards to Atlanta rapper T.I.‘s federal gun trial has been delayed six weeks according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Cash Money Records and the company’s co-founder Bryan "Birdman" WIlliams are the subject of a copyright lawsuit filed in October, accusing the rapper and his label of copyright infringement.

Hip-Hop mogul Russell Simmons has filed a lawsuit against a man from La Mesa, California, who allegedly used a website to steal peoples identities.

According to reports, Lil’ Wayne’s online album The Leak EP moved 2,401 copies the first week in stores.

Snoop Speaks Out On UK Ban, Says Video Will Prove His Innocence


Snoop Dogg says a video of the 2006 airport scuffle that got him banned from the UK and Australia will prove him innocent.

As SOHH previously reported, the Dogfather (born Calvin Broadus) and five members of his entourage were arrested on April 27, 2006 after a mêlée at London's Heathrow Airport left seven police officers injured. The incident got Snoop banned from the UK.

MC Hammer Challenges YouTube To Dance Off


Stunning dance moves helped to catapult MC Hammer to fame, and now they may help to revive his sagging entertainment career.

A hero's busy year after saving a life


The train was bearing down, and Wesley Autrey Sr. was trying to lift Cameron Hollopeter off the wet, slippery subway tracks where the young man had fallen after suffering an epileptic seizure.

Recalling the heroic act that earned him the nickname "subway superman" one year ago, Autrey described how he "bear-hugged" Hollopeter and told him: "Whatever you do, please don't push me up. I'm going to be the one that's going to get it, and you're going to be OK."

Brandy won't be charged in fatal crash


The Los Angeles city attorney's office said Friday it will not charge Brandy in a deadly December 2006 freeway crash.

Spokesman Nick Velasquez said there is "insufficient evidence" for a jury to find the 28-year-old actress-singer guilty of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter beyond a reasonable doubt.

Eddie Murphy celebrated New Year's Day by tying the knot with film producer Tracey Edmonds.

DJ Sickamore Talks 2008 For Atlantic, Famous Firm


After a 2007 that saw tremendous success from T.I., Plies and a promising start for Lupe Fiasco, Atlantic Records has plenty more in store to follow. DJ Sickamore, the director of A&R for the label, told HipHopDX about his own plans for 2008. "I'm really focused on acts that I brought in - mainly Wynter Gordon, an R&B singer that I signed almost a year ago. I'm excited about working on Plies' next album [tentatively titled Da Definition of Real]. I didn't work on the last one, but I'm counting on this one. Flo Rida's project is coming out too."

Snoop Dogg Speaks On U.K. Ban


Snoop Dogg believes a video of the April 2006 incident that led to him being banned in the United Kingdom and Australia will prove his innocence. UK authorities charged Snoop and his five member entourage with disorderly conduct and starting a brawl, after the rapper was denied entry to a British Airways first class lounge at Heathrow Airport. Some of the arresting officers reported minor injuries, and after Snoop spent the night in jail UK officials opted to enforce a policy which allows them to ban foreign citizens whose presence is considered not conducive to the public good.

Hip-Hop Music Exec Ronald "Ronnie" Johnson Dies Of Heart Attack At 49


The executive vice president of Capitol Music Group, 49 year-old Ronald "Ronnie" Johnson, died after suffering a heart attack on Sunday (Dec. 30).

Jay-Z's 40/40 Club Opens In Sin City After All


After it was reported that Jay-Z's Sin City 40/40 club failed to pass inspections, the hot spot opened last night (Dec. 30).

The franchise, located inside the swanky Palazzo hotel on the Las Vegas strip, opened its doors to a crowded house, including such stars as Beyonce, Mary J. Blige and Ne-Yo, as well as such unlikely guests as Al Sharpton and Joe Jackson. Hova himself was also in the building.

Hospital Confirms Nate Dogg's Stay, Rapper Recently Released


Nate Dogg, 38, was admitted into Pomona Valley Medical Center in California earlier this month. A patient information rep at the facility confirmed Nate had been treated there, that he came in on Dec. 19 and was discharged on Dec. 26, but would not confirm the reason for his stay. Phone calls to Nate's PR people were not returned at press time.

Ne-Yo Sues R. Kelly Over Tour


R. Kelly was hit with a lawsuit last week in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming that he fired superstar singer Ne-Yo without just cause, owing him a six-figure payment.

According to Ne-Yo, born Shaffer Smith, R. Kelly fired him because he upstaged Kelly during the "Double Up Tour," which Kelly kicked off in November of 2007.

Skillz Drops '2007 Rap Up' Video; Preps New Album


Virginia-based rapper Skillz continued his year end tradition with a twist for 2007, releasing a video for his annual "Rap-Up."

The clip, directed by Chris Robinson, features appearances by comedians including D.Ray Davis and Affion Crocket, as well as impersonations of various artists who made the news in 2007, including rapper-turned-singer T-Pain and Bobby Brown.

Ol' Dirty Merchandise Coming To Stores


The estate of Wu-Tang Clan member Ol’ Dirty Bastard has entered into an agreement with Long Island, New York based company MerchDirect, to produce a new line of Ol’ Dirty t-shirts, posters and other accessories featuring the late rapper’s image.

According to Newsday, Ol’ Dirty Bastards widow Icelene Jones entered into an agreement with MerchDirect to produce the new lines, which are slated to land in stores around February.

Rapper/actor Mos Def will host the "Sneakers Required New Year’s Eve Ball 2008" at La Terra in San Francisco tomorrow (December 31). Contrary to the normal dress code restrictions often placed upon Hip-Hop fans at various establishments, organizers are requiring attendees to wear their most fashionable pair of sneakers.

Celebrities Support Atlanta Trainer Beaten Into Coma


Performers from the worlds of Hip-Hop and R&B have come out to show support for celebrity fitness trainer Darius Miller, who was beaten into a coma early Wednesday (December 26) morning.

Miller attempted to stop a group of men from videotaping Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin's two daughters outside of a downtown Atlanta club.

The 41-year-old trainer was allegedly attacked by two men allegedly contracted with a local promotions company known as 01 Entertainment.
