Online Snooping Gets Creepy

When Nazira Sacasa sent me a press release for a new clothing boutique late last month, she didn't know that I would launch a full-scale web search to learn everything I could about her. But I needed a victim to test out the new breed of people-search services on the web, and a paid publicity seeker seemed like fair game. And so, after just a few minutes of clicking around, I had found Sacasa's MySpace page, her age, home address and what appears to be quite a lot of information about her family in Florida — all without using Google or any other popular search site.

CliffsNotes for TV

Don't think of the Minisode Network as a brand-new Web site. Think of it as a long-overdue public service.

Classic TV shows normally an hour or 30 minutes are cut down to four to six minutes on the Minisode Network.

That is, who among us hasn't felt the double-edged sword of our media age: So much video from TV, DVDs, the Internet and even cell phones ... but too little time to watch it all?

The Minisode Network has a solution.

Launched in June as a broadband channel on the MySpace site, it offers, for our streaming pleasure, episodes of vintage Sony Pictures Television series like "Silver Spoons," "Starsky & Hutch," "Diff'rent Strokes" and even Ricki Lake's talk show.

Horoscope

July 30, 2007

ARIES (March 21-April 19). When you think a relationship is meant to be, trust that. Likewise, trust that doomed relationships will offer you warnings from the get-go. As long as you don't confuse red flags for green ones, you're in the clear.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20). Finding a prime parking space is no accident. Neither is running into you-know-who. There's a plan unraveling, and you're catching every beat of it.

GEMINI (May 21-June 21). You read subtle communication that's occurring between you and someone important to you. You don't have to be face-to-face to get it, either. Wherever you are, you get the text message and also the subtext message.

CANCER (June 22-July 22). Your problems don't need talk and scrutiny. Ignore them for the next 24 hours, and they may just go away. In the meantime, focusing your attention on a subject that fascinates you is advised.

LEO (July 23-Aug. 22). Jump into the high-energy activities you normally wouldn't do because they're not urgent. Your excellence is established precisely because you don't wait until something needs immediate attention to handle it.

VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22). You run into those who can have a powerful effect on your career. You don't even need to talk shop in order to make these connections work for you. In fact, it's better if you don't.

LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 23). You're up against deeply entrenched beliefs and behaviors. You don't need to hold a position of influence in order to be influential. Love is the strongest power.

SCORPIO (Oct. 24-Nov. 21). When you were small, you dreamed of this time in your life. Now you dream of when you were small. Revel in this age on this day of your life, never to be repeated.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21). Give up the struggle that comes from acting in the way you think you should, and not the way you really want to. As the Jedi Master Yoda said, “Do or do not. There is no try.”

CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19). You're extra sweet, understanding, empathetic and present with people you love – and also with people you hardly know. It's your personal way of giving peace a chance.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18). Want to end a power struggle? Secede. Hand over complete control of the situation to the other person. In one fell swoop, the power struggle ends and you are, once again, happy.

PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20). The endeavor on your mind will take no small effort. You're the only one who can tell if you're really ready. Nonetheless, the opportunity will slip away unless you pull your energy together and pounce.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAY (July 30). It's a satisfying year. Next month you finally embody the potential you always saw in a situation. It's wonderfully validating to know your instincts were right. September brings a chance to hone your financial skills. Family needs you and appreciates what you do for them in November. Sagittarius and Libra people are exceptional supporters. Your lucky numbers are: 8, 40, 2, 14 and 33
