Florida man owes $10,000 for child who's not his


Francisco Rodriguez owes more than $10,000 in back child support payments in a paternity case involving a 15-year-old girl who, according to DNA results and the girl's mother, is not his daughter.

Francisco Rodriguez is fighting for leniency in his paternity case. "It's not right. I'm not the father, " he said.

Rodriguez, who is married with two daughters and a son from his wife's previous marriage, is fighting for leniency. "It's not right. I'm not the father, " he said at a recent court hearing.

Report finds fewer teens having intercourse, more using condoms


Fewer high school students are having sex these days, and more are using condoms. The teen birth rate has hit a record low.

In 2005, 47 percent of high school students reported having sexual intercourse, down from 54 percent in 1991.

More young people are finishing high school, too, and more little kids are being read to, according to the latest government snapshot on the well-being of the nation's children. It's good news on a number of key wellness indicators, experts said of the report being released Friday.

Hurricane Chris AKA Mr. "A Bay Bay" Says He's Got "Hits For Days"


18-year-old Lousiana rapper Hurricane Chris recently emerged on the scene with the hit song, "A Bay Bay." SOHH recently caught up with the youngblood to talk about his hometown, the making of "A Bay Bay" and what to expect from him next.

Chris started performing ten years ago, rapping in talent shows and freestyle battles. It was his success at battle rapping that earned him his moniker.

Cee-Lo Promises New Gnarls Barkley CD By Xmas, Reunites With Goodie Mob


Cee-Lo Green recently spoke about his upcoming projects including a new Gnarls Barkley record and a comeback album with former group Goodie Mob.

In a recent interview with Billboard, the Atlanta bred artist confirmed that he has re-united with Goodie Mob for a new CD, set for release via his own Radiculture imprint. Cee-Lo parted ways with the group after 1999's World Party. Years later, in 2004, the Mob released One Monkey Don't Stop No Show without him.

Master P Replaces Bill Clinton As NAACP Youth Speaker


Rap mogul and reformed "gangsta" rapper Percy "Master P" Miller addressed more than 1,000 NAACP members Wednesday (July 11) on the state of young black America, as the youth keynote speaker for this year's NAACP convention.

The Detroit News reports the No Limit Records founder and CEO was chosen after the event's original speaker, former president Bill Clinton, cancelled.

AHH Stray News: Chrisette Michelle, Diddy, G. Malone, Strong Arm Steady


Rising R&B songstress and Def Jam artist Chrisette Michele filed a lawsuit in New York County Court, claiming Douglass Ellison and Four Kings Productions breached their contract and embezzled money she was owed from management and recording contacts with Def Jam.

Sean "Diddy" Combs has been announced as a headlining act during the second annual Thisday Festival, which takes place in Lagos, Nigeria.

Watts, California rapper Glasses Malone has revealed that his upcoming album Beach Cruiser will hit stores before the end of the year.

West coast rap group Strong Arm Steady will finally release their long-awaited debut, Deep Hearted.

Kurtis Blow Hosting 8th Annual Holy Hip-Hop Awards


Rap pioneer Kurtis 'Blow" Walker has been selected to serve as an MC for the eighth annual Holy Hip-Hop Artist Showcase and Music awards.

The event, hosted by the Fellowship of Holy Hip Hop, will take place Jan. 18-19, 2008 at Center Stage Arena (formerly known as Earthlink Live Arena) in downtown Atlanta, GA.

Experts warn of lightning-strike injuries with iPods


A Canadian jogger suffered wishbone-shaped chest and neck burns, ruptured eardrums and a broken jaw when lightning traveled through his music player's wires.

Last summer, a Colorado teen ended up with similar injuries when lightning struck nearby as he was listening to his iPod while mowing the lawn.

Emergency physicians report treating other patients with burns from freak accidents while using personal electronic devices such as beepers, Walkman players and laptop computers outdoors during storms.

LL Cool J Recruits 50 Cent For New CD, "It's Gon' Be A Lot Of Fun Showing People What We're Capable Of"


While still hard at work on his next album, LL Cool J spoke to SOHH about collaborating with 50 Cent and the CD's new direction.

"It's been exciting," Uncle L told SOHH on working with Fif. "It's gon' be a lot of fun just showing people what I can do and what we're capable of."

Though L plans on sticking to "hungry" producers, the Queens legend has been talking to DJ Premier about collaborating for the LP. He also promises that the CD will feature an LL his fans haven't seen in years.

Suspect In NY Police Shootings Accused Of Killing Stack Bundles


A man accused of driving the getaway vehicle in an early morning shooting in Brooklyn, NY that left two police officers seriously wounded, has also been accused of killing Dipset rapper Stack Bundles.



Lee Woods, 29, was arrested on Tuesday for his involvement in the high profile shooting of two police officers early Monday (July 9) morning.

Mathew Knowles' Hip-Hop Inspired Baby Jamz Toy Line Coming to Wal-Mart Stores in July



Young kids will soon be able to rhyme along with their favorite toys, thanks to a new partnership between music mogul Mathew Knowles' Music World Entertainment and Planet Toys.


The pair have come together to launch a new Hip-Hop/rhythm-inspired preschool toy line called Baby Jamz.

Max B of Jim Jones’ Byrd Gang Out Of Prison



Max B. of Jim Jones’ Byrd Gang was released from prison last night after several months of incarceration.


Jim Jones greeted his fellow Byrd Gang member and the pair eventually went to a recording studio to celebrate with others.

The exact terms of the release were not immediately disclosed.

The rapper, also known as Bigavelli, had served almost eight months in prison for conspiracy charges stemming from a September 2006 robbery and murder in Fort Lee, NJ.

Charlie Murphy's "Hot Ghetto Mess" Too Much For Advertisers


At least two companies have reportedly pulled ads from the premiere of "Hot Ghetto Mess," Charlie Murphy's new BET television series.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, State Farm Insurance Cos. and Home Depot requested that BET pull their ads from the series' premiere scheduled for July 25.

"[I] wonder why no-one is pulling ads from Maury Povich and Jerry Springer, but everyone is up in arms about 'Hot Ghetto Mess,'" Murphy told SOHH.

T.I. Tops The Charts, Moves 468,000 CDs In First Week


T.I. can confidently claim the bragging rights for having rap's biggest first-week sales so far this year.

T.I. vs. TIP grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 this week by scanning 468,000 discs, according to Nielsen's SoundScan. The album boasts appearances from Jay-Z, Eminem, Wyclef Jean and Busta Rhymes.

Crunk Added to the Dictionary



The wordsmiths at Merriam-Webster updated the company's collegiate dictionary, which goes on sale this fall with about 100 newly added words.
The yearly list gives meaning to the latest lingo in pop culture, technology and current events.

So they definedCRUNK as a style of Southern rap music.

"There will be linguistic conservatives who will turn their nose up at a word like 'ginormous,"' said John Morse, Merriam-Webster's president. "But it's become a part of our language. It's used by professional writers in mainstream publications. It clearly has staying power."

Since working together previously on videos for "Gold Digger," "Number 1," "Diamonds From Sierra Leone" and "Drive Slow," Williams said the decision for Kanye to call on him for "Stronger," was simple.

T.I. Talks Retirement Terms, "Until I Introduce Something That Makes You Forget About T.I., I Ain't Leaving"


T.I. has declared that he has no plans of retiring until he personally finds a predecessor he feels would exceed his own talent.

"I don't feel comfortable backing up the game until I introduce something to the game that exceeds my success," T.I. explained to SOHH. "We got Young Dro working on his second album, Young & Restless. We got B.G. coming with his first Grand Hustle release, Too Hood For Hollywood. We got DJ Drama, the official Gangsta Grillz album. After a long battle with depression, Randy Hubbard Parker, son of Simone G. Parker was found dead in his Atlanta apartment this past weekend. The Fulton County Atlanta Medical Center lists the cause of death as a suicide. Simone G. Parker, wife of Rap legend KRS-One sites “severe depression” as the motivating cause for Randy’s sudden death. He was 23. Randy Parker was born at Elmhurst hospital in Queens New York, July 18th 1983. Randy, a graphic designer and fashion entrepreneur, was seeking employment in the Atlanta area of Georgia. A private memorial service will be held in Florida on July 18, 2007 (Randy’s 24th Birthday). Plans for an August memorial service in New York are underway. Krist and Simone Parker sends their sincere appreciation to everyone who has already responded to the tragic news.
