Zach De La Rocha to Release Solo EP


After quite a long wait and some false starts, Zach De La Rocha is releasing his first solo EP, which is self-titled, on July 22nd from One Day As a Lion.

De La Rocha provides vocals and keyboards and is joined by drummer Jon Theodore of Mars Volta.

Xzibit Joins Cage, Kilmer In 'Lieutenant' Remake


Rapper Xzibit has joined Val Kilmer, Fairuza Balk, Jennifer Coolidge, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shawn Hatosy and Denzel Whitaker alongside Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendez in Werner Herzog's cop drama "Bad Lieutenant."

Andrew Young Mentors T.I.

Palestinian Group Urges Snoop to Cancel Israel Performance


In the midst of continued violence between Israeli and Palestinian forces, the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) has released a statement condemning Snoop Dogg’s scheduled September 18 performance in the Jewish state.

The group, which mantra calls for a “comprehensive economic, cultural, and academic boycott of Israel,” has expressed shock that Snoop would make an appearance in Israel at a time when the region is full of strife and tenuous peace talks.

Jeezy: 'McCain Comments Misconstrued'


Young Jeezy has clarified his political views, after he expressed support for John McCain, after meeting the presidential hopeful during a May performance on Saturday Night Live, with crooner Usher.

The rapper, who graces the cover of the August issue of Vibe for the first time, seemed to support the Republican Party’s candidate for the oval office, shortly after meeting with him.

Jay-Z and 40/40 Club Hit with Class-Action Lawsuit


A class-action lawsuit against Jay-Z and his 40/40 Club has been approved by a New York City judge.

The New York Post reports that the plaintiff, former employee Celeste Williams, is claiming the club did not pay minimum wage or compensate for overtime hours.

Due to this allegation the courts have ordered 40/40 management to disclose the names of all employees since 2005.

Ladies and gentlemen, the Bronx is blooming


Despite its urban image, the Bronx has 7,000 acres of park land, about 25 percent of its total area. In addition to Yankee Stadium and the Bronx Zoo, the borough's green spaces include the New York Botanical Garden; a 19th century garden overlooking the Hudson River called Wave Hill; and Van Cortlandt and Pelham Bay parks, where you can bird-watch, play golf and ride horses.

Soulja Boy Signs Deal With Yums Shoes


Atlanta rap star Soulja Boy Tell’em is elevating his success with a newly signed sneaker and apparel contract with Collipark Music/Interscope Records and Yums Shoes.

Under the multi-year agreement, Soulja Boy Tell’em will work with Yums’ designers to create his own signature shoe with Yums’ Block Star line of sneakers, which feature graffiti art on the soles of each colorfully crafted shoe.

Woman dies ignored on hospital waiting room floor


Video from a surveillance camera at a Brooklyn, New York, hospital shows a woman dying on the floor of a psychiatric emergency room while people nearby ignore her.

The video was released Monday by lawyers suing Kings County Hospital.

The lawsuit alleges neglect and abuse of mental health patients at the facility.

The video shows the 49-year-old woman keeling over and falling out out of her chair on June 19.

Nas Inks One-Year Deal With Fila


Nas has inked a one-year partnership with athletic apparel company Fila, according to Billboard.com.

The deal stipulates that Fila will offer financial support for the rapper's print and TV ad campaign, as well as his upcoming tour in support of his untitled album, which is set to hit shelves July 15 via Def Jam. Nas will, in turn, wear Fila products, as well as "co-create an apparel line that draws from fashions of the late '80s."

Funkmaster Flex Calls Out Complaining Rappers


On air recently, iconic deejay and radio personality Funkmaster Flex gave a rare controversial siding with 50 Cent in G-Unit's recent conflict with Young Buck.

The Hot 97 mainstay said, "Unfortunately, I can't move with Young Buck because I'm on that thing on loyalty, man." He added, "A lot of you rappers, man, you get onto a label that's smokin' hot, and the guy at the helm is hot, man, pushin' out units! And you want to come along and live because you know if you just stay at home, drink your hot chocolate and watch Rap City, you're guaranteed to go gold without leaving your block."

School Yearbook Gives Black Students Fake "Ghetto" Names


According to the Los Angeles Times, several African American students at Charter Oak High School in Los Angeles were purposely given fake “ghetto” names in the school’s yearbook.

The students were given fake names such as "Tay Tay Shaniqua," "Crisphy Nanos," and "Laquan White."

Shady Records Issues Statement On Obie's Departure


Following the heavy circulation of Obie Trice's new single "The Giant" signaling the Detroit rapper's departure from his situation with Shady Records and it's parent company, Interscope, the brass at Shady issued a statement Monday (Jun 30) reaffirming its support of Trice's decision.

"Shady Records has agreed to allow Obie Trice to pursue his craft in a different forum free from the constraints of the current major label model," Eminem's long time partner and manager Paul Rosenberg told AllHipHop.com.
