Bill Cosby Working On Rap Album


Bill Cosby - a staunch critic of some rap music - is set to release a Hip-Hop album called State of Emergency, which will be a sanitized, issue-oriented CD.

Sources told AllHipHop.com that the actor, comedian and philanthropist will address issues like proper parenting, teen pregnancy, drug abuse, Black-on-Black crime and the dropout rate in America's high schools.

C-Murder's Murder Trial Postponed Til June


Legal complications continue to manifest for rapper Corey "C-Murder" Miller, as the date for the 36-year-old New Orleans native’s murder trial has been pushed back until June 9.

The Times-Picayune reports that the judge in the case granted a request by attorneys on both sides on Wednesday (Jan. 30) to postpone the hearing, which was originally scheduled to take place in three weeks.

Young Buck Speaks On Lil Wayne & Still With G-Unit?


The industry’s collective eyebrows were raised a week ago when Young Buck reportedly made an announcement that he resigned with Cash Money at a concert where he took the stage with Lil Wayne. The announcement shook hip hop fans and people were curious as to how true it was that Young Buck would reconcile his differences with Lil Wayne and leave G-Unit for Cash Money.

Talib Kweli Confirms Reflection Eternal Reunion Album


Although "Hot Thing" might not have stirred the masses to the tune of previous hits like "Get By" or "Move Something," 2007 saw Talib Kweli with his highest charting debut of his career with Eardrum. Nearly five months after the album's release, Kweli told HipHopDX that he's still working the effort, having recently shot a video for his next single, the Just Blaze-produced "Hostile Gospel," in Nigeria. Of the project, Kweli said, "There were some really great things we learned about this project, and some not-so-great things. Overall, I'm optimistic. This was kind of our proving-ground as a company."

Beanie Sigel & Freeway Still Signed To Roc-A-Fella, Says Manager


Despite allegations by former Roc-A-Fella artist Peedi Crakk, Def Jam has not dropped Beanie Sigel and Freeway from its roster.

According to Peedi, he was called into a Philly studio along with State Property cohorts Beanie Sigel and Freeway and told by a Def Jam A&R that they'd been dropped.

But Beanie Sigel's manager, Mark Byers, told Billboard that Beanie and Freeway still call Roc-A-Fella home.

Kanye West ''Glows'' On Tour W/ Rihanna & Lupe Fiasco


Kanye West can't stay idle for long.

Kanye West has rounded up an all-star cast for his Glow in the Dark tour. Though the actual dates have not been revealed, the tour is set to include Ye's Island Def Jam label mate Rihanna, as well as Pharrell's group N.E.R.D. and Lupe Fiasco, according to his official blog.

As SOHH previously reported, Kanye was on tour in Europe in November when he suffered the devastating news that his motherDonda West had passed away.

Diddy Gets VH1 Reality Show, Looks For Personal Assistant


If it weren't enough to have a hit reality show on MTV, Sean "Diddy" Combs is launching a new "Apprentice"-like reality TV series for VH1.

The mogul is launching open calls in major cities across the country to find a personal assistant.

The hopefuls will be narrowed down to a lucky pool of 20 go-getters who will compete to win the title of personal assistant to Diddy himself. The reality show will track the 20 finalists as they "compete to win the job of a lifetime," according to the contest's website.

Contestants must be at least 21 years old, have a "whatever it takes attitude" and be on call 24/7.

Romeo Blows Out Knee; Out For Season


Rapper/basketball player Romeo Miller recently sustained a knee injury during the first high school basketball game of the year that will force him to miss the rest of the season.

Floyd Mayweather Hosts Rappers, Entertainers In Grand Rapids


A number of superstar rappers, R&B singers, actors and comedians will descend upon Grand Rapids, Michigan next weekend, as part of boxing champion Floyd Mayweather’s “Mayweather Experience.”

Rappers Jadakiss, Souljah Boy, Styles P., Swizz Beatz and other entertainers are scheduled to take part in the three-day weekend, which takes place from February 8-10at various venues in downtown Grand Rapids.

Diddy Names Harve Pierre President Of Bad Boy


After pulling triple duty as the Executive Vice President, General Manager, and Vice President of A&R at Bad Boy Records since 2003, Harve Pierre has been appointed as the President of the label, it was recently announced.

In his new capacity, Pierre – who started with the label in 1993 as Sean “Diddy” Combs’ assistant – will continue to report to Diddy, while overseeing the finance, creative, promotional, marketing, A&R, International and Sales divisions at the label.

Missy Elliott Dropping 3-D Video


Multi-platinum rapper/producer Missy Elliott has teamed with Walt Disney Studios to create a 3-D music video that combines two of her songs in the upcoming movie Step Up 2 the Streets.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Elliott’s songs "Ching-a-ling" and "Shake Your Pom Pom" were combined to create the 3-D video, which was directed by Dave Meyers.

Judge Denies Foxy Brown's Release Request


On January 17, Brown’s attorney Laura Dilimetin asked acting state Supreme Court Justice Melissa Jackson to amend the rapper’s sentence, so she could visit Los Angeles’ House Clinic tomorrow (January 30), where she received her initial treatment for her hearing loss.

On Thursday (January 24), State Supreme Court Judge Melissa Jackson ruled against the Brown’s petition.

Free music service hits snag


A revamped online file-sharing service that promised to offer unlimited, free music downloads from all the major record labels hit an apparent snag Sunday after one denied it had given the service permission.

Qtrax says it will offer more than 25,000,000 songs available for free.

Qtrax touted in a press release Sunday morning that it was the first Internet file-swapping service to be "fully embraced by the music industry," and boasted it would carry up to 30 million tracks from "all the major labels."

Busta Rhymes gets probation in assault case


Busta Rhymes pleaded guilty Wednesday to assaulting his ex-driver and a fan in a deal that will bring three years' probation and 10 days of community service.

The 35-year-old rapper also must pay a $1,250 fine, plus court costs, for driving while intoxicated and with a suspended license.

He pleaded guilty to the charges -- related to four separate incidents -- in Manhattan Criminal Court on the day he was set to stand trial.

Rhymes, whose real name is Trevor Smith, must also enroll in a DWI program.

Trick Trick Speaks on LP, Eminem Rumors


Detroit emcee Trick Trick took some time recently to speak to MTV News about his album The Villain, but first addressed his friend and frequent collaborator, Eminem.

"Em just picked up some weight, that's it," said Trick, who scored a single with Eminem on his last album, The People vs. "He's nowhere [near] 250 pounds or anything like that. He picked up a little weight. He ain't walkin' around obese or some shit though. He can still run two miles if you want him to and still out-box the majority of them. My man still gets down."

Days after his Arizona arrest, the stage offered an outlet to a furious Lil' Wayne, who verbally tore into his entourage at a show date in Virginia before reuniting with former Cash Money rapper Young Buck the next night in Tennessee.

An Arizona court date delayed Weezy's appearance in Richmond, VA, Friday (Jan. 25) but once the rapper finally arrived onstage, he made his frustrations clear by ripping into members of his entourage.

R&B diva Mary J. Blige is slated to appear on daytime soap opera "One Life To Live," and Snoop Dogg is trying to get his paws on the action.

American Gangster Snubbed At The Oscars, Eddie Murphy Nominated For Worst Actor


While American Gangster was a smash at the Box Office, the movie and most all of its cast were missing from the list of Oscar nominations that came out this morning.

The flick - which stars Denzel Washington as the infamous Harlem heroin king of the '70s, Frank Lucas, along with notable appearances by T.I., Common and The Rza - was passed over for a Best Picture nomination, and Washington was skipped for the Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role category.

TMI Boyz, Kia Shine Brawl At SEA Awards


A brawl broke out between Memphis, Tennessee rapper Kia Shine and men reportedly affiliated with Texas rap group The TMI Boyz tonight (January 27) during the 5th Annual Southern Entertainment Awards in Tunica, Mississippi.

Witnesses told AllHipHop.com that Kia Shine took issue with comments attributed to industry veteran Wendy Day of Rap Coalition in regards to faking sales.

Producers Claim Ludacris Stole 'Get Back'


Atlanta rap star Ludacris has been hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit by three producers from Chester, Pennsylvania, who claim the rapper stole their track and used it on his hit album The Red Light District.

The lawsuit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia, alleges that Boogiii Men Entertainment Group sent a CD of beats to Ludacris' Disturbing Tha Peace label in 2004.
