Young Jeezy Sponsors Atlanta Toy Drive


Georgia native Young Jeezy is playing Santa Claus this holiday season by having a toy giveaway in Atlanta for 1,000 children.

The week long toy giveaway and charity event series, dubbed "1,000 Toys for 1,000 Kids" will take place from December 17-24 and will be sponsored by Jeezy himself along with his CTE record label and 8732 clothing line.

American Gangster Earns Two Golden Globe Nods


American Gangster was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards, including Best Picture of the Year, it was announced yesterday (December 13) in Beverly Hills, California.

The movie, which stars Denzel Washington as Harlem crime boss Frank Lucas, topped the box office upon its release in November and has grossed over $100 million dollars.

J. Prince Sues BET, Apple Over 'American Gangster'


Rap-A-Lot Records CEO James "J. Prince" Prince is at the center of a new civil lawsuit over defamatory statements made during the promotion and sale of a recent episode of the hit BET series American Gangster.

The 13-page lawsuit, which was recently filed in the Southern District Court of Texas, stems from a photograph of Prince, Rap-A-Lot employee Thomas Randle and alleged Gangster Disciples boss Larry Hoover.

LL Launches Tour Of Australia, Starring In New Movie


Hip-Hop legend LL Cool J will launch a tour of Australia next year, AllHipHop.com has learned.

LL Cool J, born James Todd Smith, will travel down under on the Greatest of All Time Australian Tour, starting on March 20th when he performs in Auckland at the Vector Arena.

Pimp C. Laid To Rest (RIP)


A number of Houston rappers paid their final respects to UGK’s Chad "Pimp C." Butler earlier today (December 13) in Port Arthur, Texas.

Thousands of people attended the funeral, which was held at the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center.

Pimp C.’s rhyming partner Bun B., Chamillionaire, Mike Jones, Willie D. of the Geto Boys, Bishop Don Magic Juan, Rap-A-Lot CEO James Prince, David Banner, 8Ball and DJ Paul were among those in attendance.

Pimp C Mixtape Awards, Big Noyd, Blahz


Police have ramped up security in Port Arthur, Texas today (December 13), where veteran UGK member Chad "Pimp C." Butler will be laid to rest.

Organizers have announced that voting has commenced for the 11th Annual Mixtape Awards ceremony being held in 2008.

Queensbridge rapper Big Noyd is planning to release a new album titled Illustrious on January 22.

Rapper Blahz of is sponsoring a dance contest in honor of his latest single, "Dunkin Hinez."

A 'Perfect Holiday' for Queen Latifah


Christmas songs call this the most wonderful time of the year. That may be especially true for Queen Latifah this season -- in many ways.

"The Perfect Holiday," a movie she produced and narrates, opens in theaters Wednesday.

She's just been nominated for a Grammy award for her new album "Trav'lin' Light."

And she's planning a "love project" -- a return to her roots with a new rap record --though she insists she's never really left hip-hop despite performing jazz standards and other classics on her last two CDs.

Pregnancy scam netted cash, sperm


A Greenwood County couple has been arrested in connection with a surrogate parenting scheme that, police say, bilked thousands of dollars from propective parents all over the country.

Deputies said that Jessica O'Donnell, 28, promised to give victims a baby and never delivered, even going so far as arranging for sperm samples to be shipped along with payments

Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five Honored


As its name suggests, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame doesn't have a history of honoring Hip-Hop culture. Nevertheless, when this year's inductees were listed Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five made the cut. The Hip-Hop pioneers are widely known for creating "The Message" in 1982, and their induction makes them the first Hip-Hop artists to hold such a distinction.

Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 12/9/07


While some big releases from well know Hip Hop artists found their way onto the charts this week, none could unseat the mighty Alicia Keys.

And now for the week of many debuts! Scarface's much anticipated M.A.D.E. debuted this week at #17 with just under 63k sold. DJ Drama's Gangsta Grillz debuted at #26 selling 48.7k, while Wyclef's Carnival 2 debuted at a disappointing #28 considering his cross-over appeal. Ghostface's Big Doe Rehab, despite great reviews, still missed the top 40 and instead took #41 with 35.5k sold. Styles P grabbed the # 52 spot for Super Gangster with 28.5 sold. 2Pac 's Best Of 2-part series took the #65 and #77 spot, respectively. Part 1 sold 22.5k, while Part 2 sold just under 19k. Rap legend Too Short debuted Get Off The Stage at #160 this week selling 8k, while Crunk Hits, a compilation album featuring some of your favorite southern rappers, debuted at #196 with 6k copies sold.

Controversial rock pioneer Ike Turner dies at 76


Ike Turner, whose role as one of rock's critical architects was overshadowed by his ogrelike image as the man who brutally abused former wife and icon Tina Turner, died Wednesday at his home in suburban San Diego. He was 76.

"He did pass away this morning" at his home in San Marcos, in northern San Diego County, said Scott M. Hanover of Thrill Entertainment Group, which managed Turner's musical career.

New Jersey cops suspended after sex assault claim


Seven state troopers have been suspended with pay as authorities investigate a woman's claims that one or more off-duty troopers participated in sexually assaulting her, officials said Tuesday.

The 25-year-old woman says she was assaulted by a group of men at a home in Ewing Township early Friday, said Capt. Al Della Fave, a state police spokesman. No charges have been filed.

CNN Poll: Obama catches Clinton in New Hampshire


Barack Obama has chipped away at Hillary Clinton's lead in New Hampshire locking the Democrats in a statistical tie a month before the first presidential primary, according to a CNN/WMUR Poll released Wednesday.

Clinton has dropped 5 percentage points since a previous CNN/WMUR survey in November, while Obama has gained 8 percentage points, according to the poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center.

Scarface, Drama and Wyclef all made their debuts this week on the Billboard Top 200, among others.

Scarface hit the charts at No. 17 with his new release M.A.D.E., moving 63,000 units. The Houston veteran pulled Lil' Wayne, T.I., and Z-Ro for the project.

Will Smith Immortalized At Grauman’s Chinese Theater


Will Smith’s career was honored in Hollywood yesterday (December 10), when the superstar rapper/ actor left an imprint of his hands and feet outside of the world-renowned Grauman’s Chinese Theater, on Hollywood Blvd.

Jay-Z Planning New J Hotels Venture


Mogul Jay-Z has invested in a real estate development venture named J Hotels, that recently purchased a $66 million dollar mid-block parcel in Manhattan.

The New York Post reports that Jay-Z and developers Abram Shnay, his son Scott and Charles Blaichman are planning on building an art gallery or a high-end hotel, that could be as high as 12 stories.

Commentary: Black men must reclaim our children


As the mug shots of the alleged killers of NFL star Sean Taylor were shown on television, I kept wondering when we were going to see their parents step forward. I saw a couple of mothers, but their dads were missing in action.

Dads matter, and it's ridiculous for us to act as if all it takes is a loving mom.

Maroon 5, Fergie are No. 1 for year on iTunes


Maroon 5 and Fergie hold the top spots on iTunes' year-end sales roundup.

Maroon 5's "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" led the iTunes list.

The online music store released its top-selling albums and singles Tuesday, though it declined to release actual sales figures.

Maroon 5's sophomore album, "It Won't Be Soon Before Long," was the No. 1 seller on the site, followed by Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" and Kanye West's "Graduation." Winehouse and West are also leaders heading into the 50th annual Grammy Awards -- he has eight nominations, she has six.

Wyclef, Akon and Jimmy Rosemond Headline Festival


On Saturday, Dec. 15 recording artists Wyclef Jean, Akon and Czar Entertainment CEO Jimmy Rosemond will lend their efforts to the Yele Festival in Port au Prince, Haiti. The Yele Festival or "YeleFest" is a week-long celebration which brings together various members of the arts and entertainment communities to help raise awareness about issues relating to Haiti. The festival is in support of Jean's non-profit organization the Yele Haiti Foundation, which was established in 2005 with the goal of using music and development to implement programs which improve Haiti's education, health, environment and community development.

Erykah Badu Preps 2 ''Nu'' Discs In '08


After a four year hiatus, afro-sporting soul siren, Erykah Badu, is set to release her fourth LP in the coming months entitled Nu AmErykah.

According to Billboard, the double-disc, which is set to hit shelves on February 26, had its final title announced this past Thursday (December 6) in front of a select group of fans inside of New York's Electric Lady Studios. The album will feature 18 new tracks that will be distributed over two separately sold discs and will be Badu's follow up to 2003's Worldwide Underground.

Foxy Brown ''Needs Clinical Help,'' Says Close Friend


"If they release her today, she'll be back in a week," Geoffrey Davis, a friend of Foxy's, told the news outlet. Davis has visited the rapper at Rikers several times since she was locked up for violating her probation.

According to Davis, who is also an activist who runs a nonprofit, anti-violence organization in Brooklyn, Foxy can't change alone. He thinks the rapper needs professional help.

"I love her, and I have her best interests at heart, but I think she needs clinical help with anger management," he said.

Pimp C Funeral Details Announced


Funeral services for UGK member Chad "Pimp C" Butler will take place Thursday (Dec. 13) at the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center, 3401 Cultural Center Drive , Port Arthur, TX.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. and will be open to the public. Out respect for Butler’s family, no cameras of any kind, including cell phones will be allowed into the civic center without exception.

$3 Billion Dollar Lawsuit Against Dr. Dre Dismissed


Hip-Hop producer Dr. Dre was victorious in a second lawsuit involving the controversial "Up In Smoke" tour and DVD.

An invasion of privacy lawsuit against producer Dr. Dre over a videotaped conversation featured on the "Up In Smoke" DVD was dismissed last week, according to reports.

On December 4, 2007, Judge John A. Murphy dismissed a lawsuit filed by three former City of Detroit employees, who sued the producer for $3 billion dollars, over a taped conversation featured on the "Up In Smoke" DVD.

Jay-Z Announces New Year's Eve Weekend Concert In Las Vegas


Rapper and business mogul Jay-Z has announced that he will give an exclusive performance of his American Gangster album during New Year's Eve weekend at The Palms Casino in Las Vegas.

On December 29, Jay-Z will perform selections from the critically acclaimed album American Gangster inside The Pearl, one of Las Vegas’ best known concert theaters, which can accommodate up to 2,500 ticket holders.
